About Wakoya

Located in Fukui Prefecture, the least accessible area in the Hokuriku region, is a specialty coffee shop known for its quality. The founder of Wakoya, Ms. Kazumi Kobayashi, is particularly adamant about two things: "quality" and "freshness." "Coffee beans are agricultural products, and just like rice, the secret to deliciousness is freshness! No matter how advanced the rice cooker, if the rice is not fresh or of good quality, it won't taste good." Going back to the root of delicious coffee, it must come from quality and fresh beans. If the coffee beans are not superior, no amount of high-end equipment or skilled brewing can make the coffee taste better.
Wakoya may not be large, but it boasts second-place finishes in Japan Coffee Roasting Championship (JCRC), Cup Tasting Championship (JCTC), and Brewing Championship (JBrC), and is very generous in teaching its staff. The shop is also adorned with numerous awards, with its baristas actively participating in various competitions. This year, 2023, the third place in the Japan Coffee Roasting Competition was also won by Shinya Kobayashi from Wakoya.
